Everyone agrees that snow-white teeth are beautiful, and it should come as no surprise that people have been trying to whiten their teeth not only for the last half century, but for ages. Dental whitening is not just a cosmetic procedure: it has a positive impact on a person’s overall physical and mental condition. When you have a set of beautiful snow-white teeth, you enjoy showing them to others and naturally smile more often.

There are generally two types of dental whitening methods: professional and non-professional. The latter category includes a variety of pastes and powders sold in stores and pharmacies that claim to safely and gradually whiten teeth with each brushing. However, the whitening agent contained in over-the-counter products is weak, is slow to produce results and has only a temporary effect. As a rule, young people resort to such methods either because they cannot obtain their parents’ permission to visit a reputable dental office, or because they haven’t the time to do so.

Dental whitening in a dentist’s office provides a greater variety of more effective treatments and the whole process lasts only a few hours. First, the doctor will examine a patient’s mouth and teeth to determine if internal whitening of dead teeth – that differ in color from the enamel of whitened living teeth – is required following the basic procedure. The dentist might also need to replace fillings and veneers so that they match the new color of the whitened teeth. The result is a uniformly beautiful and healthy smile.
